The Afro-American flag, also known as the Pan-African flag, is a tricolor flag consisting of three horizontal stripes of equal size – red, black, and green. The red stripe represents the blood of African ancestors, the black stripe represents black people, and the green stripe represents the abundant natural wealth of Africa. The flag was created in 1920 by Marcus Garvey, a Jamaican-born black nationalist leader, as a symbol of black liberation and unity. It has since been adopted as a symbol of the Pan-African movement and is widely used by African Americans and others to represent their heritage and solidarity with Africa.
