The current flag of Madagascar was adopted on October 14, 1958. It features a white vertical band and two horizontal bands of equal width – a top band of red color, and a bottom band of green color. The colors of the flag have symbolic meanings, with white representing purity and innocence, red representing sovereignty and the courage of ancestors, green representing hope.
