"The class of 2008-01 of the Baltimore Police Academy would like to thank you for your efforts on our behalf. The flag you created, our guidon, is truly amazing, not just for what it is, a glorious standard for all to see, but also for what it represents.

Most of the time, we as a people forget what flags are meant to be. They are supposed to represent the best of us, those ideals that we hold to be necessary to live our lives with heads held high. We forget about the Integrity, Honor, Pride, Commitment, Courage, Struggle and Pain sewn into each stitch of cloth, and added to every bold color. Here at the Academy, when we look at our flags we sometimes forget to see the long blue line of police officers that came before us, some of them making the ultimate sacrifice, so that we may continue the proud tradition of putting others before ourselves.

Our guidon, Sir, reminds us everyday, in some way or another, of all of these things and more. You have given us a remarkable flag, it is now up to us to live up to it.

We cannot express to you how much we appreciate all of the time and effort that you put into helping our class.
