Furthermore, a GAR Veteran fought for the Union, aiming to preserve the United States and end slavery. These veterans endured the hardships and sacrifices of war, displaying bravery and determination in the face of adversity. After the war, they joined the GAR to connect with fellow veterans, share experiences, and engage in community service.

GAR Veterans played a significant role in shaping post-war society, advocating for veterans’ rights, pensions, and commemoration of fallen soldiers. These veterans valued patriotism and dedicated themselves to preserving the Union’s values and the freedoms they fought for. People continue to remember and honor the legacy of GAR Veterans.
